Therapy for adolescents aged 12 to 17
I provide support for teens aged 12 and upwards who may be experiencing a range of challenges, including:
- Depression
- Anxiety & Panic Attacks
- Trauma
- Self-esteem issues
- Stress
- Self-harm
I prioritise creating a safe and supportive environment where teens can openly express their struggles and develop healthy coping strategies.
In order for therapy to be helpful, clients need to feel safe, respected, and supported by their psychologist. This is important for everyone, adult or adolescent. In our initial appointment I will go over the rules around client confidentiality to ensure everyone is on the same page regarding how the client's information will be handled.
The First Appointment
For younger clients, this first appointment will bring both the client and their parent/caregiver into the room so we are all on the same page when it comes to confidentiality. The parent/caregiver is then given some time to outline their main concerns around the client's mental health. After this, the parent/caregiver may step out, and the remainder of the session will be done with just the client and myself present.
Of course, if a client would prefer their parent/caregiver remains present for the entire first appointment, this is welcome while they get to know myself and the environment.
Parent Involvement
The level of parent/caregiver involvement depends on a range of factors, including:
- The age and maturity of the client
- The client's desire to have the parent/caregiver involved
- The symptoms the client is presenting with
- The type of therapy interventions being conducted
- Risk of harm to the client/others
For some adolescents their parents/caregivers are involved from the very start of their therapy journey. In other cases the parent/caregiver may only be involved at certain points throughout the process.

Jessica's Approach
Collaborative
I take the time to explore and understand the problems you're facing, so that we can uncover insights and develop interventions that are individually tailored to your journey. I may be a psychologist, but only you are the expert in your own life!
Human First
I encourage you to come as you are to sessions. Whether that’s cracking jokes, sitting on the floor, or swearing like a sailor (as long as you don’t mind a little of the same from me!). I want therapy to feel like a safe space where you can present in a way that feels most natural to you.
Flexibility
I offer both face-to-face and telehealth sessions depending on your location and your needs. I also have after-hours appointments available to help you access support around a busy life.
